I have to share this with you, I think it is amazing.
A trailer for the book you ask? I like to think of it as future atavism, a clever attempt to sell the script rights, or in this case a innovative way to process an author interview while giving us, the visually insatiable public, a multi-sensory sketch of the tone we can expect from the book. Grim, Grime, and Grit the three gnomes of noir and it looks like Wire to Wire set to hit book shelves everywhere June 1st, offers these, the adjectives of the underworld, in spades.
Juliet Zulu , Tin House Books Books have me searching for a seedy motel where I can close the blinds, pour my drinks to a depth of three fingers, and indulge in the wanderings of the less cautious.
There are times when we find ourselves up against a foe or obstacle that is rather daunting or disgusting. If it is not possible to regulate a civilized response to this engagement, then we must dig deep and knuckle down to our pits of resilience.
Richard Nixon was a president of some talk. Sure. He has been praised and jeered for his style and stance. Say what you will. Just fit it in there somehow.
John McCain, previous to his career as a public servant, was a naval aviator who served in the Vietnam conflict. He was involved in several accidents previous to being shot down and spending 6 years in a prison camp. I mean, he somehow managed to egress his A-4 Skyhawk as it became engulfed in flames from errand ordinance. Once again, say what you will about this event. It was not pretty.
When these two gentlemen met, both crisped in their finery and attempting composure, they locked gazes. And then they locked hands. Their dance was depicted in a black/white photo, as government proper took place in the wings. Standard operating procedure.
These studies are a brief story of a glimpse. As I looked through the window of archived footage, I attempted to see a few sides of these dudes. Nothing elaborate, nothing too detailed. I didn’t want to stare too long. I don’t like to stare, really. But just enough to suggest further exploration into the expressions. Sweet, weird fellows.

Big bike on a little ramp
There have been rumors that the Trusty Switchblade micro ramp is too small to ride a bike on. Here is a video of EJ setting things straight. HA!
So we finally did it - everything cooperated for Nick, Wes and I to get in our first bikepacking trip of the season. Our plan - which we worked to perfection - was to take the MAX out to the end of the line in Hillsboro where we’d start riding in earnest. From Hillsboro we rode west through Forest Grove to the Barney Reservoir. We bush camped west of the reservoir in the Tillamook State Forest and rode down the Trask River Road into Tillamook the following day. From there we bused it back to Portland on the Wave. Obviously you could do this as a one day ride and save yourself from carrying camping gear. But we wanted to take our time and enjoy the nice weather. According to our GPS-es, we spent as much time screwing around as we did riding. In addition to all the fun, our route also took us down one significant section of the upcoming Rapture ride so we did double duty by finishing up most of the remaining recon.

Sent me this near heartbreaking image last night.
One of his son’s, Jason happened to use suprese in the thought bubble of a frog that appeared on a kids menu in Seattle. Speculate as you may, but I believe that what is being said here, what Jason was trying to get across while narrating the frog’s thought is that this frog has made it. Come on, the frog is obviously relaxing in a bucket jacuzzi hewn from a mighty redwood tree, and it only takes a quick shocking second at your local lumber supplier to realize that a hewn redwood bucket jacuzzi is no where near an inexpensive endeavor. The artist of this frog knew this, and like any dutch master, nothing in the picture is with out its own weight, the casual rest of the hand with an easy thumbs up, the fecund pastoralia* and easy cyan sky coupled with the enigmatic smile of a frog who has it all, transmits to the viewer both the frogs feeling and what must be our only analysis of his situation… Suprese.
*please if you haven’t read this and anything else by Saunders. I promise you will be a better person.
