Cross Crusade Party Pictures

by Amanda on December 3, 2010 · 0 comments

I was really excited about last night at the Water Heater. Not only was it a party with all my friends, but they booked my favorite DJ in town, DJ Aquaman. He plays funk and soul every Friday at the Goodfoot and you can usually find me there throwing down my sweet moves. It was packed. The music was funky. We danced until we could dance no mo.

Lube does wonders for bicycles. Tired of your bike sounding like a click of chatty teenage squirrels? Put some lube on it. Does switching gears take a herculean effort, try a little lube. On the 3rd day of Christmas its time to put some lube on it.

Hey we know its cold outside and they say that you lose over 80% of your body heat through your head and you can control a lot of the heat loss by covering your head. You know what does a great job covering your head? A hat. Lucky for you on the 2nd of December all hats are one sale. 25% off.

Holiday’s feeling FLAT? On the 1st day of Christmas 21st Avenue bicycles is happy to give you 30% off of all tubes and patch kits so you can get the rest of your shopping by bike

{ 0 comments }

This year we are doing something different, not only have we created an advent calender for the store where we have a new category of items on sale everyday but we are going to take the guess work out and tell you ahead of time whats going on in the sale. We know that this defeats the purpose of the advent calender; no more opening that little door and finding a waxy aged chocolate wrapped in tight red foil or a small plastic figurine of that jolly old avatar of the Christmas Spirit. We are telling you ahead of time because as much as we love a good surprise we love helping you find the correct holiday present and the best way to do that is to tell you what is on special ahead of time.

1st. Patch kits and Tubes

2nd. Hats

3rd. Lubricants

4th. Nutritional Items

5th. Pumps

6th. Tools

7th. Glove

8th. Brakes

9th. Locks

10th. Computers

11th. Sunglasses

12th. Panniers

13th. Racks

14th. Fenders

15th. Saddle

16th. Helmets

17th. Rain Gear

18th. Warmers

19th. Tires

20th. Brooks

21st. Chris King

22nd. Specialized Daily’s

23rd. Surly

24th. The Whole Store

You will need to check back on the given day to see the percentage off that is being applied to the sale but we figured that we give you the heads, holiday spirit and all.

*We recognize that our sale is centered around traditional western christian dates. We want to let you know that we respect all creeds and beliefs and hope that you get the most out of your holiday season.

He Ames to please

by Amanda on November 30, 2010 · 0 comments

Alan came into the shop to day to kick it with his homies, that’s us. I heard he came in on my day off and showed off his awesome ink and I was a little jealous that I missed out, so after a little sweet talking I got him to take his shirt off. I too have ink in my skin and I was pleased to see that Alan was such a badass. I was also pleased to see that he had great posture. When I turn 47, like him, I hope my posture is on point too.

After he flexed his muscles a bit for me, he put his shirt on and told me the reason he came into the shop today was to drop off a book he got me, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It’s perfect timing because I had just finished the book Boomsday and needed something new to read. Alan, being the super thoughtful dude he is, brought me two different sizes of books and since I am kind of blind I went with the larger print.

I have had many customers come in here and either tell me that I should read this book or see the movie. Maybe, it’s because I have a huge panther tattooed on my neck. I don’t know. I’ll find out though after I give it a read. Hi Five, Alan. When I turn your age, 47, I hope I am as cool as you.

Tattoo You

by Kyle on November 25, 2010 · 1 comment

One of our favorite customers has to be Alan, Alan kills it. When he comes to visit the shop its like a little ray of sunshine burst forth from the clouds through the window, a lazer beam of light from the heavens.

The other day the light did shine. Sean and I were busy as always fixing bicycles, cleaning the grout, improving our minds, working a Godel’s incompleteness the0rems, when in walks Alan. “Guys” he says, “I’ve got a problem, my bike’s working fine, I have nothing to fix on it.” I have to say Sean and I were a bit surprised, although he grew up before the golden age of hucking, Alan can wreck a thing or two. “What do you say I buy you guys a couple of coffees, Starbucks is right down the street, what are you having?”

Sean and I answered in full blooded American unison, “black.”

“Blaaaaaaack, that’s un American, they have so much to choose from down there, black really that’s what you want?”

“Yes, thanks Alan.”

Alan returned for Starbucks with two black coffees and a mocha, ” black coffees, you have to have something else try this mocha you have all these choices, black coffee is just not American.”

“Alan,” I said ” black coffee is as American as cowboys, if you want to add anything to it drop in a couple of nails. Sean, show Alan your new tattoo.”

Alan, ” well what made you get that?”

Sean, ” I am in to traditional tattoos, America, Eagles and Awesomeness in general.”

” Oh, I have got something to show you.” Alan says as he starts peeling off his winter layers. Alan like one another one of 21st Ave Bicycles all time favorites Mr. Steve Gitchell is tattooed but unlike the “Gitch”, Alan chooses not to wear his tattoo’s on his sleeves and legs and chest and most everywhere else but solely on his sleeve. A EKG blip on his upper arm, as a cardiologist Alan had always wanted to get an EKG tattoo but didn’t want to regret it when he was older. ” Well a couple of years ago my daughter said “Dad you are older” so I got the tattoo.”

“Alan, that is amazing can I get a photo for the blog?” and while I was searching around for our trusty shop camera Alan did us one better and got into full on tattoo bravado mode with his shirt off to take his picture. Ladies you are about to fall in love and gentlemen sorry to say but welcome to the world of inadequacy. Alan brings the heat.

Boom

Eat your heart our Sailor Jerry.

Life Cycles Premier

by Amanda on November 24, 2010 · 0 comments

Fat Tire Farm and Pedal Nation presented the Life Cycles movie at the Hollywood Theater and holy cow, what a blast. I was fortunate enough to be able to MC the event. I MC all the Backyard Blam events with Kyle and it felt lonely up on the stage with out him. Lucky for me there was another microphone so I called him to the stage to “man the ship” with me. Instead of just throwing the SWAG out into the crowd, which we did some of, we made them work for it. Push up contests, high kick contests, and the best joke got prizes. We kill it.

Pictured above is Sean and Kyle with their game face on… Kyle’s game face looks a little like a deer in headlights.

Below that is Andrea and Aaron from Pedal Nation. They are super nice people so if you see them on the street, Hi Five them.

Neat

After the movie the awesome didn’t stop. We decided to go out in a big group and P-A-R-T-Y. On the way to party time I made fun of Dan, from Portland Design Works, for taking a corner super carefully and when I came around the corner I saw 1st hand why he was being so cautious, wet leaves. Well, Dan made it through unscathed. Me? Not so much. After shooting my mouth off I crashed super hard and bruised my knee and ego, but that didn’t stop me from having the time of my life that night.
