Our Hand Built Wheels Beat up Your System Wheels

Custom Bicyclespark chambersComment

Yep. We said it. "System" wheels can be cool and all, but at the end of the day they are 100% less special and 47.8% more likely to contain tough-to-replace parts than a set of wheels built around quality hubs. The wheelset pictured was laced up for Cyclocross racing and off-season exploration. 28 hole White Induistries CLD hubs offer durability and servacibility- Titanium freehub bodies last way longer in the mud pits of CX. Also compatible with multiple axle configurations, these hubs should be at least a little Future Proof.

Wheels need rims, and we like these HED Belgian Plus models quite a bit. Sure they're almost 500g ea but they make a 33mm tire look like a 36 and are pretty darn tough and tubeless-ready to boot! We've had other sets go out under heavy riders on dirt roads and come out just fine after years of riding.

Gotta hold hubs and rims together, and can't bear Sapim CX-Ray spokes. Light and even a wee bit aero. The whole package was around 1570g without rim tape and valves, which is pretty darn competitive. More importantly, they will ride great and if anything ever breaks or wears out, it can be repaired or replaced without having to hunt high and low for parts.

Clean, Classic, Classy. Twin Six Rando Custom

We've stocked Twin Six clothing for a few years now, and dig how their line is full of solid designs- timeless without being "retro" but not lacking for solid cuts and good technical features. Over last winter, they introduced a line of frames with the same vibe, and we recently had the opportunity to build up someone's Dream Bike on the "Standard Rando" frameset. Tim worked with customer Cory to make a value-packed go-anywhere machine for, well, going anywhere. A mixed Ultegra/105 drivetrain was matched to a hand built set of DT 350 hubs and WTB Frequency CX tubeless-ready rims laced up with DT competition spokes. TRP brakes, Easton/Salsa/Brooks stuff rounded out the package. Nothing too fancy, but all great durable stuff that should last a long damn time and handle just about anything from commuting to gravel to Randonnee rides (surprise surprise...)

All Road AWOL - Custom Build

Michael didn't even know he was looking for a better bike when he saw the AWOL frameset in the shop, but one thing led to another and soon he was taking his first "little" shakedown ride from Lake Oswego to Cascade Locks and back...and he couldn't have been more pleased with the comfort and handling of his new AWOL. This build didn't deviate too much from the flavor of the stock AWOL comp, just dialed it in for how he rides. Lots of road, sometimes loaded, but more about the ability to ride where ever his will takes him with no problems. Plenty of gear range, tubeless tires and dynamo/USB power are the stars here.
