Here are two sweet projects we worked on for a couple really nice guys in the last month or so.
First up is Kim’s Disc Trucker flat-bar commuter with an electric-assist front hub. His prior bike was set up with rim brakes and a lower-end drivetrain so we set up the Disc Trucker with a SRAM X.7/Apex 20-speed for reliable shifting and Shimano hydraulic disc brakes for low-maintenance performance. The build was rounded out with Armadillo tires, a set of SKS longboard fenders to keep everything dry as possible and a Civia Market rack to hold the battery and bags as needed.
Next is Erik’s Salsa Vaya “2.5.” He has been considering a Salsa Vaya for more than a year, but wasn’t super-stoked on the build of either the Vaya 2 or Vaya 3 models, so we did a little customization on a 60 cm Vaya 2. We swapped out the stock Apex crankset for a lower-geared X.7 double, and changed from the Apex brake/shift levers to a set of SRAM S500 brake levers and S500 bar-end shifters as well. With the addition of a Salsa Wanderlust rack, SKS P50 fenders to fit the massive Clement X’Plor MSO tires, and a couple blue bottle cages the bike is ready for weekend overnights and gravel exploration in the Coast Range.
