Urban Velo

by Nickw on November 25, 2012 · 0 comments

The November issue of Urban Velo features a couple mini-reviews of new-ish items we’ve been stoked on of late.

The Knog Blinder 4v takes their super-bright all-in-one USB rechargable rear light and puts the LEDs in a vertical, rather than square orientation for a more svelte look behind a seatpost.

The PDW Dios Thronus saddle is the first waterproof saddle to be molded entirely from EVA foam. It’s mid-sized and should work for a wide variety of riders/bikes.

While we’re on the topic of Urban Velo- we would mention that we stock Urban Velo. In case you’re not familiar it was started a few years back by some Dirt Rag alumni and has a nice take on everything related to city riding. It’s always free so swing by and grab a copy when you’re in the neighborhood.

Maybe you’ve been thinking about racing CX but your commuter is covered in racks and fenders and you don’t fancy run-ups with your 30lb trail bike.

We have you covered. Rent a podium-ready Ibis Hakkalugi carbon race rig for $60/day from now through November 18. After that we’ll be putting these demos up for sale. Available in 54, 56 and 58.5 sizes (top-tube measurement)

Questions? Call us up at 503-22-2851

The denizens of sweet bike stuff and all-around good guys at Portland Design Works have a new saddle out. The

Dios Thronous is pretty darn nice for a $40 chair and waterproof to boot. Videographer extraordinaire James Wilson shot this promo feature, starring 21st Ave Bicycles as well as 21st Alumnus Sean Light floating some dirt jump

Inspiration

If you’re ever looking for a good ride to bury yourself on you can do much worse than checking out the routes on the Rapha site. Tons of good ideas and great places around Portland. Check out the video from the 2012 Gentlemen’s Race- you’ll see some Velodirt riders in there too.

Wondering why we’ve been closing early on Wednesdays? Here’s some video from last week’s Blind Date at the Dairy race thanks to Kent Johnston’s Vimeo.

Blind Date Cyclocross 9-26 from kent johnston on Vimeo.

We had 550 riders out on Sept 26, which is a series record. What are you doing next Wednesday?

We got Specialized Purist bottles for the clean taste (BPA free of course) and their sweet “Watergate” top.

They hold 26 oz of water, sports beverage or pure grain alcohol.

A 10-spot will get you the best-looking bottle in town.

New Shop Kit!!

by Nickw on July 12, 2012 · 0 comments

We’re so stoked to announce that we have the best-looking shop jerseys in the universe, and some pretty nice bibshorts to accompany them. How is this possible, you ask?
Well, prior to leaving us to sharpen his design skills working for Chrome Industries, Sean Light slaved away for nearly 10 years, refining the design that would eventually be produced by Castelli USA and worn by bicycle industry luminaries such as Amanda Sundvor and James Wilson.

If you would like to rep 21st Avenue Bicycles by looking good and feeling comfy in fine Castelli cycle wear, email us at [email protected] or come on by the shop to place your order. We’re taking orders through late July for delivery in early September. (Good things take time.)

America!

by Nickw on July 3, 2012 · 0 comments

We’re going to be closed on the 4th of July. No bike plans in the works for me this year, but it’s a good day to remember freedom with a long ride, and I count past 4th of July rides amongst my best.

Thanks to you, founding fathers who looked away from established political and religious systems of national governance and decided to try something new.

It’s been a messy 236 years, but we’re in a pretty good place despite hiccups along the way.
